February 2009 – Foundations are laid and fundraising is organised

In Malagiri the land needed to build the school is acquired and villagers start to clear the feb09land ready to build the foundations. Heavy, hard work!!

Book sale raises money
At the University of Brighton, the Curriculum Centre is having to make some space for the move to the new Checkland Building and is removing books and materials which cannot be housed in the new area. Mandy Williams and Pam Blackman from the Curriculum Centre decide to sell off the books in aid of the Malagiri Project. Many staff and students come and the sum of £543.88 is raised.

There is a great atmosphere and lovely encouragement. I need it as the attempts to complete the form for the Charity Status is so complex. As the Malagiri School is a small scale project I am advised by the Commission to link with an organisation which already has charitable status.

Student runs half marathon
Richard Reardon, a third year student, is running the 25th Hastings Half Marathon in aid of the Project and he raises a staggering £545.88. Many ideas are forming and it’s all getting very exciting.
Schools unite to perform THE SHOW
Colleagues Jackie Hannay and Richard Wallis have been chatting about putting on a fund raising evening of entertainment performed by school and community groups. Richard has organised THE SHOW before. He has such energy and is very positive and dynamic and within days he has a number of staff on board and has made links with teachers at Davison High School for Girls in Worthing. The Assembly Hall in Worthing is booked for April 2010 and regular planning and committee meetings set up.
