We had final presentation this day, i was happy that finally the end. However, I was too busy last Monday to prepare for presentation and the print so I didn’t check Lauren’s 10 videos that she put together. After the presentation in the morning, we have to show however when I check it, she posted them in her private youtube video and didn’t even change the name. Creating a youtube account wasn’t necessary in the handbook however i believe if you want to submit something as a group, you need to be professional at least change the name or the avatar pictures

I was a bit angry and texted to group chat then I left the group chat. However, Lauren and her friend cyber bully me. Here are some evidences. Lauren roles in the group was visual promotion but she rarely came to class as well as the photoshoot (only came to 2 photoshoot over 6). Most of the behind the scene we have to send her, but she complained that we didn’t send her earlier (they were on the share google drive a while ago).

She blocked me on Instagram at the end.

at the beginning of this project i was very looking forward to create a cool magazine with other creatives, cause i’ve been working alone for first year so I want to hear and work other people.  Unfortunately things don’t go right and my group has been tear apart so basically only 3 people working. Josie and Pearl did amazing on their roles, however as an art director I have to take over the other roles as well.

The good side is that i learned so many new things, such as graphic design, creating gif and filter, learn more about social media and layout, etc. However, it was challenging for me to take over so many things, and communicate with team. I had very short time to finalise and print the magazine as I had to do all the layout and graphic last minutes. While Lauren not creating any other contents I had to edit lots of videos and made 2 more interviews with my friend for the video contents. At the end, we finished 2 video interviews in one day and i had time to edit one more behind the scene to post on Instagram.

For printing part, it was super hard as no where accept to print the sixe I wanted which 29x29cm so last minutes we had to change to 21x21cm but still very expensive so I had to pay for the one that we’re gonna submit. I’ve contacted with a printing service to print 25 copies later, but the sample one we have to go to Brighton PRINT CENTER which is quite expensive but very fast. If I had more time, I would probably find a better solution for this or we can create more things to raise fund  and promote the magazine.

I would say i’m not enjoy at all working in this group, it makes me lots of stress but i’m mentally stronger now, I don’t even need to ask them for their advice I just make decision myself which faster and more efficiently. I really want a group work is the place where we can learn from each other and support each other to make a final work, however, this group makes me stress a lot. Also I feel so lonely in class as most of the time i was left alone even in the presentation mock up day. It was very frustrating to communicate with people that aren’t replying and always have an excuse. ( I haven’t seen Lauren for a while and when we talk about presentation this is an excuse that she made)

I understand that everyone having their own problem, but this is not professional and not respectful to the group.

In overall, I am appreciate my flatmate helps with graphic design, mentally support and my friend Mia that she helped me with the video interview. I am proud of the outcomes of this project and all the new skills that I learned.

We had mockup presentation on Tuesday, however i’m quite busy with finishing the layout for the magazine so i couldn’t prepare the presentation carefully. Josie sent me her articles on Friday 13th so it’s very late compare to other group. I also have parttime job at the weekend so i don’t have much time to prepare it. One the day, only me and Pearl presented so it quite short and less than 10 minutes. We will have to wait for Josie comeback to practice.

I took 3 roles in this project however I will try to make them not to long. Chris gave us some feedback about how we should present and try to keep the slide slower. I will have to make the gif at the beginning longer so we can try to introduce our magazine while it running.

At this stage i still finalise the Indesign layout because we still wait for 2 more illustration from other illustration/fine art student. However on Friday i finally can make a test print. Unfortunately we have to reformat the size of magazine from 29x29cm to 21x21cm as the price is too expensive and we quite late now so we don’t have much choice in printing service. My priority now is just to have one final print to submit then we can care about printing to sell later.

The printing really stress me out because only me in the group try to look for a printing service, i’ve called and emailed lots of places to ask but most of them refuse to print in big size or in square. I feel a bit regret to choose this size, but it does make my magazine stood out and it matches with the theme. After the test print, i have to resize some text and the page number because they look too big compare to the size. The quality and images are quite nice, I also want to design a jacket for the magazine like the real vinyl. That probably easy to to as I will print in A3 and cut it out.

I have texted Josie before the holiday so she can send me all the articles and interview so I can make a draft layout. However, she not replying to me until Thursday when I had to ask Chris and Emma to contact to her. But i have create a sticker pack when i’m in holiday so we have something to promote our magazine and sell to gain fund. I also made some collages and retouched photos that can go to the magazine. Because I don’t have any articles so I can’t do much.

I also contact to Leah-graphic designer in group chat but she ignored me twice again. So I had to take the work myself. It was such a hard job for me as I’m not good at graphic and Indesign. My flatmate Stella helps me a lot with graphic and I had to use her laptop as well because my laptop isn’t strong enough. We brainstorm ideas for each articles and interviews how they should be layout in the magazine. Unfortunately, i can’t ask my group cause they are very slow and we already late compare to other groups so I just have to decide everything myself.

Because of the shortage of time, I haven’t made many experiments so some layouts don’t look very nice. However in overall I think they look not too bad and still readable.

We had a talk with Chris on Thursday and he suggested us to do another shoot if we can in a studio, before we would like to do other contents that we haven’t done yet so we just add one more studio shoot. To be honest I was quite panic as usually I plan every shoot 2 weeks before so this was so quick to brainstorm the ideas as well as styling and find location

I have discussed with Pearl and Josie then we came up with the ideas based on groupie and the word “obsessed” that we received a lot in our questionnaire. I did more research on groupie and I think this is very interesting topic so we decided to do photoshoot based on that and the theme is rock and crazy. Luckily we got 2 models that fit with the theme so the final results are amazing

Josie went home before so Pearl and I organized the photoshoot. I found the location Tichborne studio and I booked it from 1-4pm from 1-2h45 we”ll try to do the Groupie photoshoot then spend the last hour to do other pages that we still need to do

Lauren told me that she will come at 1pm to drop off some clothes/accessories that she got then she came to see her collab group. However she didn’t come to any but also didn’t notice to the group. Lojain didn’t show us any styling board however she brought stuffs to the shoot that are useful. Leah came at 3pm and just sat there for one hour. At this stage I’m not surprised with their attitude anymore so I just carry on working for the magazine.

We also had to do other pages in the magazines: the cigarettes with lipstick and the dress up game which I really like the results. I text the groupchat all the plan for that shoot but only me and Pearl brought clothes for the Dress Up game, we had around 6-7 looks which I think was okay even tho we kinda lack of accessories and different hairstyles.

The final results of Rock pts turn out so great, we got lots of photos that we like and I’m will try to pick the one that can be used as a front page.

I told Leah to develop the sticker sets cause i want to print when I get back to my country on holiday as the price is cheaper. She haven’t replied to me so im doing it by myself because I want to sell that to raise fund as well. Even when I come back home I sent her photos through Wetransfer and tag her in the groupchat what she do with the layout, unfortunately she just read my messages but not even reply

for this photoshoot we would like to have 5 models male and female cause we want to demonstrate people in sport and wear things that sporty but also fashionable. Because I want this shoot is like editorial i tried to focus on posing and styling. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any male models that available on Friday even though I posted a casting call in our Instagram. In the end we got 3 girls so we decided to do another one with all male next week.

Me and Pearl had been asking our for models and we prepare some of the clothes, I got some football shirt and diy them a bit by made them a croptop.  Because Lojain didn’t even come to class to engage anything when we have a photoshoot, me and Pearl prepared lots of stuff for the shoot

The shoot was in Falmer sport center, I was posting a plan for the shoot on Tuesday to the group chat but except Pearl and Josie 3 of other didn’t have any reply so I just don’t know whether they come or not. On the day of the shoot Lojain-stylist ask me what things should she bring when i asked about clothes in the group few day before. Then she came late for an hour with jus a few clothes when me Josie and Pearl already took lots of photo with 2 models.

Leah lived right next to the sport center but she also late for an hour something, she didn’t do much in the photoshoot and at the end she was telling me to send all the images for her. Then we had argument that she didn’t do anything since the beginning but always ask for photos then do nothing with them. After that she threaten me that She got to redo the Zine project that’s why she busy and if she fail then my group won’t have a graphic designer. I felt bad after that conversation with her, she just not contribute anything to our team but keeps tell i’ll work at home then nothing.

However, the shoot went well thanks to nice weather. One of our model used to do gymnastic so we got lots of photos with cool poses from her. We haven’t got Lauren there to make some videos but we got many behind the scenes so we can just send her to make contents for our social media. I wanted some serious poses but it seems quite hard with our models so we just tried to shot at different angles to make the photos more interesting than the two other photoshoots we made

This week we have printed our some images that we took on last week to put on our flat plan, There still have a lot we need to do with our flat plan. Josie is preparing some questions that we can interview everyone and post on Instagram to get as much response as we can. Also we will have a photoshoot on this Wednesday so I want we to talk and plan about that but only me Josie and Pearl as usual so just kinda decided everything ourselves.

The shooting in Wednesday I want to show the contrast between football fan and pop fan, they both stay up late to watch the show, they both love a figure/team; but girls are always be treated unequal to boys. Also for the post-production I would like to edit them in the tape style and placed 2 images together. We made this photoshoot in Lauren house and luckily we got 4 people at the shoot this time me Josie, Pearl, Lauren and Lojain; even though Lojain didn’t even prepare any clothes. Leah didn’t come this time eventhough she texted us twice saying that she will be late.

The light in her house made the images have very cool styles, I was the photographer this time because Pearl was model for this time. The result was good even though I regret not trying more close up facial expression. This was the first time I try to create spike hair however it wasn’t succeed but we still use what we got. I did make up and hair for Pearl and I really like it, I think it works good in the pictures.
On Thursday we have more things to plan, we got lots of ideas for graphic however Leah didn’t come to class or reply to my messages in the group chat make me really worry about the process. Nearly 2 months she didn’t do anything useful for the group or discuss ideas with us, I just don’t trust her to do the final layout in Indesign. She texted to the group chat about the funding and I asked her if she can do it for the group then she just seen my messages and ignore, then I made the link and put them in the bio.

Because we work in the group so i hope everyone has something to do or contribute to the group, i have always asked for opinion and feedback but beside Josie and Pearl we talked in class, 3 of them just don’t care and ignore. I feel frustrated and tired but I really love this magazine therefore me and 2 other girls just do our best

This was a coming back day after a long summer holiday. In this module I will be put into group and work in position to make a real magazine. I have research some role in the summer and I’m interested in Art Director and Photographer, eventually I put Art Director as my first choice

On Thursday we have chance to look at some magazines: some of them full of editorials, some are stories, food, music, etc. We analyse detail how they place information in the front page, most of them are commercial magazine so some of them are very look alike, but we still got chance to analyse other magazine to get the idea how we want our magazine in the future be like

We found this magazine called Marfa they have interesting design and the layout inside the magazine are also creative and cool, which kinda match with the vibe we’re aiming for. As the role of art director, I love the explore everyone aesthetics and try to look at lots of magazine so that I have the ideas of what vibe our magazine most suits. We probably do some photoshoots and interviews: it gonna be in a fun way that young generations can enjoy it.

This week we have a first photoshoot that we have planned before, this photoshoot will be focusing on how other people and the media think of fan girl, with a room full of posters and cute stuffs. I have plan and assign Lauren to print and bring the poster, Lojain bring some clothes and help at the shoot. However, in that Tuesday morning only me come to class (Josie got Covid and Pearl had to pick up the model) I haven’t heard from the other one. At lunch they both said they will come at 12 or 1, but at the end no one showed up and only me and Pearl at the photoshoot. It was bit hard for me and Pearl because we also have 2 models and I had to asked my flatmate to help with the light.

In the shoot me and Pearl decorated the set and changed clothes for models and I also did a bit make up. Lucky for us that was a easy shoot so we don’t have too any things to worry about. I tried to take behind the scenes images and content that I want to edit like a reels for instagram.

The good think is the result turn out very nice and I have some contents to post on our social media

I texted to the group chat at that night about the situation they all said they had emergency that they couldn’t come.

On Thursday we have a lesson about a logo and we also spent time working in a group, however in the morning only me and Pearl again. We made plan for the next photoshoot

In the afternoon Leah and Lauren come, I had to explain the flatplan and the photoshoot again for them. I think we should have a logo that is unique and recognizable, however Leah seems to postponing doing that and she just used the existing font. I’m trying to push her to do the logo so we will have think to mark on our video or avatar. A part of me feel very bad when I just keep message or remind her what she should do, if I don’t she won’t do anything which makes me feel very bad and worry.

This week we had to create our flatplan only me Pearl and Josie come this week, however we kinda set up the flatplan based on our ideas at the beginning, we would like to make it a magazine but also content lots of art elements such as illustrations, graphic and images

We also love to have some DIY open pages that I believe we can stick them ourselves

There’re some pages that we want the readers to interact with our magazine like playing game etc, for this reason I also have to consider the paper material it shouldn’t be gloss so that people can write in it

Leah-graphic came on Thursday in the afternoon after the time when Chris talked about Logo which I think was very important. Then we had to explained to her again and told her we need another one. However she just kept saying that she quite tired and she will do when she get home, she just keeps asking for the images that we took on Tuesday. In the group chat we all said that the credit will be for me and Pearl who did everything and I already edited some photos. She just insisted in these photos so I sent her 7 pics that I retouched.

After a week she did nothing with these photos and also the logo, therefore I had to create one and everyone all choose that. She just kept asking me for the photos which is very annoying because I said I will edit them and send over the whole group when I’m done.
