This semester marks more than a year of my gap-year so I was very excited, however, I was starting it online due to pandemic problems in my country. In the first 2 weeks, it was hard for me to understand the project as I was studying through MS Teams and It was hard for me to push myself back to study after a gap-year.
I think the project was significantly abstract as I have not ever done anything like this before. Because I have 4 separate requirements for this class, I was quite confused about the essay and the double page that I have to make. I have to admit that I was not 100% focused on the project, I was lost and not sure how should I begin.
I started reading the course handbook carefully in week 3 and re-watched all the PowerPoint several times to get the project mean. I was lucky that tutor Daniella opened a section on Team to answer some questions and that helps me a lot. I began with research the given image by all means. Going through all the links attached in Powerpoint slide was very helpful and informative.
After I had my first offline class on Monday, I was more focus on the writing part, which was difficult for an international student like me. Even though I just arrived to the UK and was not settle down yet, I decided to make a plan for the last week immediately as I had only 1 week left. I was having difficulty in referencing but I understand their importance. I had a talk with tutor Emma in class and she helped me categorize it. She also gave me some advice about sketchbook which I didn’t know as I did not have a chance to attend class few weeks before.
I had some ideas for the double page; however, I have not sufficiently thought about how it goes and which part should I develop. I researched more and focus on my sketchbook and gradually come up with ideas for double page. I attended two classes on Skillshare about making collage, and it was a great experience for me to know more about this field and learn some techniques on Procreate and Photoshop
I am using my own photos I took in March for the collage. If I could do it again, I will make a new photoshoot and arrange a new set design for it. I did notice that my feelings about this project changed every week from confusing in the beginning to rushing and now I am checking everything again before submitting. The work that I made is nearly what I expected, however, I would love to tackle it differently if I had chance, I would try with male models and explore more about the architecture.
Overall, I learned how to manage and organize the work and adapt myself to certain circumstances.
