Enabling Design: people not profit within the context of historic conservation

For this project I am concentrating on what is needed for the whole terrace in terms of renovation, who looks after it and what should be done to enable change – namely developing a strategy that can grow giving it the means of achieving it – enabling design.

The main emphasis of the intervention is to enable the area as a destination. Whilst Madeira Drive is a major event space, this is only on event days and limited to the Pier end. Major issues are: access and stewardship and the renovation of the terrace. With the Terrace renovated and in the hands of the community the area can become a destination and be a vital part of Brighton and Hove. Used during the day as a destination with the space used for events using the upper Terrace as a viewing platform for evening and night events.
