Statement

My practice continues to be rooted in the physicality of abstract expressionism. This is defined by gestural brushstrokes, vibrant bursts of colour suffused with humour and spray-painted compositions while maintaining their mindfully balanced components in an alluring visual expression. A space of both ideas and feelings embedded with an emotional response.

I’m constantly being inspired by my everyday surrounding so keeping my sketchbook with me at all I times allows me to scribble down different shapes and colours that I find interesting, which are the foundation for my paintings. I don’t tend to spend a lot of time on these drawings as I want to get my ideas down as quickly as possible, so they stay playful and humours. I apply this this idea to my paintings by keeping my brushstrokes fast and innocent which allows a fresh feeling to show through my paintings.

Current themes that have been circulating throughout my practice is the use of accidental brush marks and how I react to them as a painter.  This idea is something that I have only become accustomed to and I now enjoy the moments when I get surprised by mistakes which in turn has become an important part of my working process.
