Mandy Baker

I have researched many different artists who have photographed plastic or used it in their work. One of which is Mandy Barker who uses still life photography to create abstract images of broken plastic. I liked the artistic style of Mandy’s photography and the way she has uses the plastic to create a unique image/collage. Her use of composition and framing, as well as her use of colour, create an artistic explosion which is very pleasing to the eye, making dull and uninteresting bits of plastic into a new vibrant piece of art.

Mandy has experimented with different lighting to create mood which I think adds depth to the image as a whole and makes the image look a lot more interesting than just some bits of broken plastic on a background. She uses neutral coloured backgrounds to make the colours of the plastic bolt and stand out more, and different shapes, sizes and parts of plastic to give a wider range of materials and add diversity. I particularly like the user of popped balloon rubber and the way she’s taken something which on its own would just look like some rubbish and made it into something more interesting
