Dennis Pederson

Another photographer I looked at was Dennis Pederson. Dennis is a still ife photographer who has worked in the cosmetic industry, photographing for companies such as clinique and L’Oreal.  Much of his work is for cosmetic and beauty companies and involves him photographing liquid bottles or lotions and creams to make them look visually pleasing in the hope of selling them through advertising and in magazines.

Dennis uses different lighting, backdrops and props to create abstract images which are vibrant and interesting. You can see from some of the images, that Dennis is very creative in how he styles and delivers his images, creating fun images out of the props he is using. I payed particular attention to Dennis’ photographs which used plastic to gain inspiration for myself when it comes to creating my own images. I Particualrly like his used of plastic bags and the way hes used arrange the bag with the lighting to create the image of a horse, it creates something visually beautiful out of rubbish.

I really like this style of photography and the way that Dennis has made beautiful pictures out of plastic which however this sort of photography I feel would be quite challenging and doesn’t correspond with the message I want to achieve from my images so I want to experiment more with different living spaces and the plastic within those spaces. The final result I want to achieve for my project is to educate my audience through the use of visual images surrounding plastic pollution and I feel like these images alone, although are interesting and abstract, they don’t provide much of a narrative or a context behind them and that’s what I want to achieve through my final images. However I did experiment with some still life photography of plastic in my home against different backgrounds and at different angles to see if I could recreate some of the image styles and broaden my camera skills.
