music photographer research

When researching music photographers there was one person who’s images stood out most to me and that is photographer James Marcus Haney. Haney’s use of the crowds and the people who participate in the music scene is captured in an authentic way, it doesn’t feel posed and even when it is so it’s out of a fun and silly nature. There is something about these images that are raw and within the way Haney captures images it comes across as a pure interaction that was caught at just the right moment. Searching through Haney’s photography I found a quote from Gill Landry “He’s not to be found in the posh hotels of Vegas or Milan but on the floors of squats, the undercarriage of trains, or the roof of the White House. If you have a couch in a far off land he’ll gladly come and sleep on it.” (Gill, Landry). This resonated with me as a musician in an up and coming band and it tells alot about the images that he takes and the person who haney is. A sense of belonging to the people and taking raw images That are original in their own right. Within my own images i want to create a similar style and take inspiration from these images by James haney as i believe that being able to capture the music scene in this way is the most authentic way i can show what it is to view behind the scenes of being in a band. I wanted to convey that out law persona that Haney portrays within my images as in my eyes being in a band is very similar to his approach to photography, sleeping on couches, being within the action and the hussle of real everyday moments that feel as if they’re at a faster pace of life compared to everyone else’s experience.
