Experience

Many tourist attractions label themselves as experiences, upside down house and the i360 use these words on there websites. To tie in art and tourists I would like to make an art experience. An artist that I like creates art that is an experience is Olafur Eliasson.

Weather Project

The weather project 2003 was a site specific project in the turbine hall at the Tate modern. This project is linked to Eliasson’s fascination with the way museums mediate the reception of art. In a museum, visitors are offered an array of information before they even see a work of art ,marketing poster, postcards. This information influences the experience and understanding of the work. In this project he decided to direct these less overt aspects of making an exhibition, so that the experience of the work would be left as unscathed as possible for the viewer. A semi-circular screen, a ceiling of mirrors, and artificial mist to create the illusion of a sun. Aluminium frames lined with mirror foil were suspended from the ceiling to create a giant mirror that visually doubled the volume of the hall. Backlit by approximately 200 mono-frequency lights, the semi-circle and its reflection created the image of a massive, indoor sunset seen through the artificial mist emitted into the room. By walking to the far end of the hall, visitors could see how the sun was constructed, and the reverse of the mirror structure was visible from the top floor of the museum.

While looking through Eliasson’s website I also found this installation. It makes me think of being virtually underwater. Which could  be interesting take. we have a regular pier and a virtual pier, what about a virtual underwater pier.
