Human Chair

Exploring the world of chairs in art and what they mean, along with the human body. In a module called Chairness I explored chairs in art, eventually making my own art in the form of a chair. A grotesque human chair of the female body. I found my chair in a second hand shop and I was attracted to it for the leather on its seat and back rest which reminded me of skin. Exploring Ugliness, an art style that looks in the beauty of things that are traditionally ugly. Something we can all relate to by seeing the process that something is made. Along with the chairs ergonomics and bad posture. Creating the structure and shape to my chair. My chair is a functional chair you can sit in, however it is not a everyday chair. The experience of sitting in this chair is quite an uncomfortable one. It may be a very well cushioned chair but there is no way to sit on this chair comfortably. A human growth taking over a chair. The upper body of a larger woman littered with everyday women’s insecurities such as hair, scars, veins, spots and freckles along with bad posture. The beauty in what can be considered ugly.
