The combination of concentration and the surges of neurotransmitters strengthen the neural circuits that build the brain

Teenagers can learn spatial, visual, and iconic skills from video games as many games require visual-spatial ability and hand-eye coordination to complete. The player has to coordinate the brain’s reaction to hand and fingertip movements.

3. Quick Thinking And Accuracy:

The fast paced action in video games trains the gamers brain to make a quick decision without losing accuracy.

4. Improves Decision-Making Skills:

Gaming will improve decision-making skills. The study has found that teens that play video games made decisions 25% faster without affecting accuracy. Teenagers adept in gaming can make choices and act upon them six times a second, this is four times faster than normal.

5. Encourages Teamwork:

Multiplayer games that involve cooperation with other online players encourage teamwork. Video games also help make the most of your skills to contribute to the team.

1. Increases Aggressive Behaviour:

Games with violent content can lead to aggressive behaviour in teens and can desensitise them to violence. Studies have shown that teens who like playing first-person shooter style games are likely to adopt a detached view of the society. They also develop aggressive thoughts and tendencies.

2. Social Isolation:

Playing video games can make you isolated as you may spend more time playing games than actually socialising with your friends and you are less likely to have other interests outside of school. Such as playing a sport.

3. Teaches Wrong Values:

Games are capable of creating (or recreating) worlds with such accuracy that, now more than ever, you could easily find yourself mistaking footage of a game for a video recording. Often, the way games portray society, and its attitudes can be extreme. Women are often given sexually provocative personalities, and sex content of games may be presented alongside violence. Also, bad language and behaviour are often picked up both from the game and from others playing online.

 

4. Poor Academic Performance:

Your performance at school can suffer if you are spending hours playing games. Playing games late at night can contribute to the lack of sleep which in turn, will affect concentration at school. Another cause of falling grades is gamers skipping homework to play games. 

5. Adverse Effects On Health:

Have you ever considered what effect excessive gaming can have on your health? Spending too much time playing video games, and not participating in activities to keep you fit and healthy can lead to obesity, muscular, skeletal and postural disorders, video-induced seizures, nerve compression and numbness in hands, elbows and shoulders.

The PEGI age rating system; the little coloured boxes you see on the front of games. It gives each game a rating from five possible options of age appropriateness (3, 7, 12, 16 or 18).  Each number corresponds to the recommend minimum age of the player, based on the content of the game.

The top three ratings (12, 16 and 18) are actually legally binding for retailers, meaning they cannot sell, for example, a 16-rated game to a child under that age, without breaking the law in the UK.

To compliment the age ratings, PEGI also implements content descriptor icons. These tell you why a particular game was awarded a specific age rating and can range from Fear and Gambling to Online and Violence
