Although I have a pretty ok CV and very rusty portfolio already, I am very happy to have this as a set module as I think it will be super helpful to get us confidently walking into the workforce directly out of university with all the tools to help us succeed, and I am very thankful to have guidance on my professional presentation and portfolio.
After having a few speakers coming into uni to talk to us about their career journeys, I am left feeling a bit… nervous … about finding a job that I really like. It almost sounds like we are being prepared for the worst coming out of university into a global recession. That’s also perhaps due to the fact that I don’t really know exactly what I want to do. I know that ultimately I want flexibility from my job as I am not necessarily “career orientated”. I want to make good money whilst also having a life outside of my job. The last thing I want is to be stuck in London, cramming into the tube day in and day out, being stuck in a place I don’t want to be, doing something I don’t want to do just to pay rent for a mouldy 1-bed flat. I am almost thinking about it too much in a way. I guess the goal for now is to get my foot in the door and make decisions from there onwards. The issues that I could possibly be facing with that are – being fresh out of university, not having enough professional experience.
I began researching throughout LinkedIn to see what sparks my interest and what qualifications are needed for the jobs that I would be interested in, and where my skills stand within the fashion industry. I definitely see myself starting off as a studio assistant somewhere or creative assistant?? Get some hands-on experience and build connections as I have none and go from there.
