WEEK 7: This week’s assignment is to 3D print a tile and stimulate the process on CAD.

For the tile, I’ve used the design I’ve previously worked on in week two and scaled it down to 30x30x5mm on Fusion. Afterward, I saved it as a .stl file which is ready to be 3D printed.

To animate the process of 3D printing, I’ve used the software, Ultimaker Cura. I was able to select the type of printer I would be using, material and the details of the design such as layer height, draft angles, etc.

Setup

After selecting my settings, I was able to estimate the time needed to print my tile, which ended up to be 13 minutes for all 25 layers. I was also able to animate the process layer by layer, shown below.

Animation

To conclude, Ultimaker Cura was very useful in animating the process of 3D printing especially to take note of the tool path in order to make sure it goes smoothly.
