Reflective Log

Overall, I think my zine turned out ok, I initially struggled with linking the idea of feminism and “Riot Grrrl” to the theme of Identity. However, when I completed my shoots, I found that the style of “Riot Grrrl” reflects my identity. I styled, shot and edited all the shoots myself. I am happy with how the shoots came out as I used the coloured gels over the flash and this creates a grungy vibe that correlates with “Riot Grrrl”, I found this was my strength within the project. For my zine, I wanted to create a statement, I did this by using big, bold colourful words, relating back to the idea of feminism; “Equality is key”, “I am a feminist, I am a Riot Grrrl”. I wanted to pair an image from one of my shoots with the text throughout the zine, as this breaks down the zine yet still has a strong statement. A weakness within this project was the illustration/drawings. To overcome this I used my images as a base and edited them in photoshoot with the drawing pen and then used the magic eraser to erase the digital background image, I then incorporated this into my zine to add some illustration. Furthermore, choosing the paper for my zine was difficult as I wanted to use news print but this was too thin, so I used regular paper and acetate. When using the Japanese binding technique, I struggled with this as the paper appeared too thick sewing it all at once and it looks quite messy, but I am happy with the outcome of this zine
