Here are some of my final images from my final shoot, intending to capture and display the leather headpiece. The premise of this shoot was to set up the headpiece in a completely styled outfit to show the texture and style of my materials in a fashion context to display the potential use of the material. The location is also critical for the concept of the shoot, with the premise of symbiosis aiming to create materials that provide little to no environmental impact and provide succession for the world after the lifecycle of the product is over, i felt that shooting this shoot on location is a crucial element of the shoot to show the interaction of my model with the natural world and how they are coherent in the imagery. When doing the shoot, it was just me and the model at the location; when I’m doing a shoot independently, I find it challenging to capture BTS content as I am very focused on the final imagery, I did manage to collect some BTS content including videos and images of my phone, but I feel like if I had someone else with me on the shoot, there would be a lot more content of the actual shoot and not snippets from in between.
I am thrilled with my final images from this shoot and think they perfectly reflect my concept and thought behind the shoot. As I did travel for this shoot, part of my enthusiasm surrounded being back in the cornish seaside on a day of sun and rain, exploring the location and the potential for imagery; this was very nostalgic as I have been shooting content in Brighton for a while now. During the shoot, there was on-and-off extreme rain, which we did miss during the shoot luckily, it allowed this powerful, warm natural lighting with the support of my reflector, but viewing the storm brewing along the seafront and during the shoot, we also saw two seals which was magical in its own sense, concerning that they were so close to the Newquay harbour but from the clifftop seeing how they interact and their tracks in the sand motivated me to pursue this as more of my BTS as it was captured on the day of the shoot.
If I were to improve this shoot, I would have worked with more of a team and explored a range of locations, with images in caves and cliff tops. Still, I was on a time deadline, and the tide was in during the time of shooting which was around 10am so I had to compromise and use more of the beach location excluding the caves. I wish I had more up close content of the hat, I did manage to get some images showing the hat, but I could have been more experimentations with this and explored more of a still life approach to this shoot when displaying and capturing the hat, but this is also something I can work with in Brighton and plan a different shoot for as I only had my model for a limited time.
