Photographic shoots

For my planned shoot for my preparation for my FMP I wanted to conduct a range of shoots including natural inspiration from local surroundings, a lot of these natural structures have inspired my articles, for the article around my ethos of the brand where I will be discussing the narrative of a seagrass experiment where I went with an environmental science student to expand my knowledge of cultivation and working with invasive species he has helped me through a lot of my discussion regarding the sustainability of the brand symbiosis and working with biomaterials, it has helped me influence my material decisions based on discussions with this student.

Seagrass shoot (for Web):

I’ve included the final images from the shoot, which will create a visual aspect to my website article, when reviewing my final images and when I was at the location I was really inspired by the colours in the natural surroundings of the location. The environment had bold greens which I can use in the colour schemes for the branding of symbiosis. Through my imagery, I wanted to show the process of sampling the sediment through the use of mudders and other equipment. I’m happy with the narrative I’ve shown through the imagery and think these images will have a productive flow to follow my text.

Sheffield Park shoot (natural landscape and social media):

For this shoot, I wanted to gather natural inspiration, for my social media I want to explore the trends of #calmtok and #nature tok. I was very inspired after this day and a lot of the natural sounds were peaceful and tranquil which I can use in my social media content, I’ve made a TikTok from some of the content I gathered from the shoot which is shown in this category. This shoot was primarily for content for my social media for the symbiosis branding, it will motivate the message of curating material that influences a sustainable impact for the fashion industry.

Editorial Test shoot:

For this editorial shoot, I wanted to practice working with the model in natural environments for my final shoots, I worked with different poses and below are my two final images from the shoot. On the images, I illustrated how I incision the mock-ups for my biomaterials to turn out like. I want to create some sort of hat as well as a covering/ harness. I want the main focus of the imagery not to be the model but the natural location and the biomaterials, I’m not even sure I want my model’s face in the images as I do want the focus on textures and landscape. I’m happy with this shoot I want to work more with lighting for my shoots to control the focus with direct lighting connotations. I’m going to do more research on shooting with natural lighting and artificial lighting when on location.

Photographic research:

Reflector:

A reflector is a photography tool used to redirect light to a subject or scene. It doesn’t create light; rather, it redirects light that is already there. A reflector is good for creating fill light or lessening shadows. They are used to fill in shadows, add highlights, change the colour temperature, or create contrast in your shots

Kicker lighting:

Simply putting a single-speed light on a stand and aiming it from directly behind (or 45 degrees behind) can add a ‘pop’ to the subject that you can’t achieve otherwise. This light will separate them from the background in a way that’s difficult to replicate in Photoshop and is one of the easiest photography tips to make your images appear more professional. The portraits I shoot on location are done using two light setups; one main light on the subject, and one background or kicker light. Two lights are easy to carry, versatile and quick to set up.

Negative fill:

Negative fill – neg fill or just neg for short – can be accomplished with anything black, most commonly a polystyrene board (American name: bead-board), blackout material (usually bolton in the UK or duvetyne in the US) or a flag. 5-in-1 reflectors have a black side that can be used for neg fill too. The term solids or black solids can be applied to any of these tools, indicating that they are completely opaque, as opposed to nets. Negative fill subtracts the light in the frame and increases the contrast in the image.
