When looking into the processes of these natural materials I wanted to understand how to create the material as well as find a practitioner/brand that uses that process within the industry. I investigated seaweed plastic, Casein, and fish skin leather which are all shown on the sketchbook pages below. Through my research I feel like the best processes to do at home which I can easily experiment with will be the Casein plastic and the fish skin leather which I’ve curated instructions for which are below. I won’t properly understand the process till I experiment and explore the processes for myself to develop the right techniques needed to form the materials.
Researching Mujo, Labs, Tessa Silvia, and Inversa really helped me understand how they are marketing their materials. With each brand, the focus is surrounded by sharing material information and often working in collaboration with charities. For me, the process is the star of the show within these brands and the way they document through their marketing fascinates their audiences. Personally, I could watch it for hours, which has given me the idea of utilizing that within my brand and creating an ASMR narrative to guide our audience through our process.
