In our workshop today we were tasked to bring in a t-shirt that we were happy to cut up and mess around with to explore sewing and upcycling garments. Within the lecture, we discussed how crucial it is to be resourceful within a shoot if a garment doesn’t fit the model. As photographers or stylists, we know the skills on how to fix a problem that might occur within a photoshoot. We were learning how to use fabric to create texture within a garment which the process is shown below. Emma showed us a tutorial video teaching us about this technique as it involved backstitching and running sticks which I was familiar with. I took some images from the process below which shows the construction of the garment.
Below is the finished piece of this garment. I really enjoyed this process as I love making and was really proud of myself for this outcome and I was really interested in how this process can elevate a piece of clothing that can be elevated on a model. I would like to experiment with new techniques I can do with sewing and even the upcycling factor of this really interests me as I love upcycling and styling clothes that wouldn’t be worn before the process of styling and adjusting.
