Guen Fiore and Rubina Marchiori Artist Study

Below are a couple of images from the collection called ‘Girls’ photographed by Guen Fiore and styled by Rubina Marchiori. I was drawn into this shoot by the provocative nature of the images and how to me it shows how the female body is seen and exploited. These images offer an unfiltered portrayal of girlhood in 2021. Fiore says about the shoot  “Throughout the past year, I have been very inspired by the same 20-year-old girl,” Guen says, referring to Livvy, one of the protagonists of the series. “Even more than her appearance, what has intrigued me about her is how she expresses herself; a subtle balance between sensuality and what is left of childhood innocence. After photographing her on several occasions, I envisioned a project that could talk about this passing stage in a girls’ life from a wider range of perspectives by focusing on the next generation of women.” the shoot for me explores the journey leading to body acceptance, to sexual awakening and the discovery of sensuality providing viewers with a glimpse into the lives of those who are just coming of age now.  My initial view of the collection contrasts with the photographer’s original meaning however I feel like the sexual nature can be perceived and followed down many different avenues. I want to look into the photographer and stylist individually and see how they explore their practices.

Guen Fiore:

Guen Fiore is an award-winning photographer, specializing in creative and portrait photography. The research she pursues finds its centrality in the representation of the human figure. Not only can that be perceived in her personal projects, but it also emerges from her professional works, especially in the fashion field, where her focus on the inner nature of the person is a true statement. Every subject is not merely captured, but rather revisited and transported into a story. The resulting tale is made of subtle gestures, gazes, non-verbal elements that reach out and touch the observer’s feelings and emotions. I really like her style as I feel like it captures the female figure in an empowering notion not sexualizing the body but the contrast of expressing it.

Rubina Marchiori:

Rubina has worked in the fashion, advertising, and editorial business collectively for 9 years in London, Paris, Milan. Her styling work has been featured in international magazines like Vogue Italia, king kong, LULA Japan, Wonderland, Numero Russia whilst producing commercials for brands like Vivienne Westwood, house of holland, Simone Webster, Fanta Body, and many more. Her creative dexterity extended into the world of creative direction where she has directed a variety of advertising campaigns and collaborated on fashion collections and shows in Paris, London and Milan. I really like her stylized looks as for this perceptive I’m only looking at her work in the category of her styling however I also admire her work alongside just styling and admire the other avenues she does down and how she hasn’t limited her career.
