Exploring Flat Lays

In our lesson today we looked into flat lays and looked into the different connotations that can reflect a personality or advertise an item. I found this really interesting by looking into color schemes, props, and backgrounds, etc. All of the three images below sell a different product and reflect a different tone from different factors of the image and in our lesson, we looked into different examples of this however with these three for example the first image is most likely promoting the jumper, categorizing the audience with the props, this gives hints that this would be an ideal Christmas present for a woman who enjoys hot drinks and is aiming to be very aesthetic with the wrapping within the image and the fairy lights. Including text is a different element to flat lays that can draw in someone more in relation to the text within the image or a quote that they take inspiration from. In my personal opinion, I think the first flat-lay is aimed at a middle-aged mum who likes to keep a traditional aspect to her life but also likes to take a step into a more creative edge to their life in a way that is against tradition.

In this lesson, after we looked into the context of flat lays we were tasked to create our own flat lays. During this time I was happy with the piece I created which is below within a sketchbook page I created. While creating this piece I tried to convince myself I was working as a flat lay, however when I finished my outcome I decided my piece looked more like a collage using 3d materials rather than a flat lay. However, I still like this piece I created and still think it represents Anna Piaggi which was what was the point of the flat lay task. With my piece I wanted to represent the way, Anna uses fashion as her identity and the use of color and texture within clothes she wears and tried to reflect that within my flat lay.
