Mum’s Music Nostalgia Illustration

I asked a few family members what their favourite 90’s R&B songs are and what it made them fell, or what nostalgic memories it brought them. For this piece I asked my mum about hers and she said her favourite song is “My Love Is The Shhh!” by Something For The People. She said That the song was one of her favourite songs when she was younger and that it reminds her of singing it in her room with her best friend at the time. I decided to do an illustration of her childhood memory of the song. I used pen to do this sketch. What I like about this piece is that it gives an inside to my mums memory. What I could do to make it even better is to do another sketch but in colour to bring the piece to life a bit more.

Turning the mind’s eye

7th December 2021

Today we did a workshop to analyse a given piece of text and do a visualisation activity using the brief to make a series of sketches then resolve them in to one final illustration. we could use any techniques to do this and any materials. I struggled on finding ideas on where to start as I struggle with not having people give me instructions however, when I got started I ended up creating loads of ideas.

Let there be light

26th November 2021

During this experiment I experimented using light, putting  clear and coloured acetate over the lens, projecting different patterned backgrounds over it and using different objects to place on it and reflect on to it to create different effects. I really enjoyed seeing what different effects appeared when using different objects. what I didn’t get to do was bring in my own image to use which would’ve been more interesting if I used.

‘World’ Building

14th October 2021

Today we got a task to create a 3D collage using card. I cut, folded and drew patterns on my coloured card to create floral designs such as origami. what I enjoyed was watching it all come together and turn in to a garden. what I could’ve done better however, would’ve been filling it up a bit more and making it even more interesting.

Screen Printing

screen prints

12th November 2021

Today, we practiced an art technique called screen printing. In order to do this we worked in pairs to combine ideas. we were told to create a stencil each and use a craft knife to cut them out. What I enjoyed about this was working as a team and thinking of good ideas. when I got to do the screen printing my partner wasn’t in so I had to do it myself only using my own idea. however, what I enjoyed about that was when the ink came out perfectly after numerous attempts and my pattern was fully showing. what I found challenging was finding that right balance to get the right ink consistency.

Ditchling Museum trip

5th October 2021

Today, we went on a class trip to Ditchling Museum. While we were there we got given a few tasks to complete. We were told to do some descriptive writing about 2 pieces of art we liked from the museum. The other tasks that were given were, to do a variety of drawings using different materials and colours. The artist that I was most interesting was John Venon. His artwork really caught my eye because it seemed very chaotic and colourful. His art work seemed to tell a story in its self.
