The ‘Magnificent Obsessions: Artist as Collector’ exhibition at the Barbican inspired initial concepts for the collections project. I thought about perhaps containing items I collected in bell jars, also looking into the more random things such as Damian Hirst proved to collect.
I went round my room to start finding what I mainly collected, looking at trinkets as displayed at the Barbican. I had a lot of glittery trinkets. However, I felt that trinkets were too basic and obvious of an idea. Therefore, the idea of glitter alluded to a concept itself. Indeed, I collect many glittery items, especially in my wardrobe. The nature of glitter highlights, so I highlighted everything in my room that was glittery to see if a common theme came up. I also noticed contrary to the Barbican, I had no order within my collections. This prompted the idea of perhaps exploring the idea of collections and disorder. I experimented with letter press to create words that hard disordered kerning and leading.
