For my project so far, I have thought more about looking into the making of wool and using eco friendly materials for the making of clothes. For my business module I am making a marketing plan for ZARA called ‘capsule’, it will be a collection of essential fashion pieces that are designed to be worn with existing products in your wardrobe, whilst being made of 100% eco friendly materials. I was inspired by their Join Life approach and am currently employed with them at the Brighton store, so seeing the mass of clothing people purchase has also inspired me with this capsule. I am going to research the making of materials and which ones are 100% eco friendly. As I am looking at this for business it has broadened my ideas for my research and investigation project. I have always had an interest in how wool is made and would love to be able to make it myself, I enjoy making clothes using crochet methods, and know how wool is a highly sustainable material. Going forward, I will be looking into the making of wool and the pros and cons of using it for making clothes. I will also be looking into magazines about sustainable materials as I am also thinking of making a fabrics journal, one which educates you on the making process using wool, and what materials to look out for when buying clothes.
Since my last post, I took a weekend to visit home and get some inspiration for my project, taking my camera out and paying attention to detail in the woods. I was looking at collecting aesthetic imagery which could be used later in my project, and was enjoying experimenting with depth and colour in the photos. I have attached the photos into this post so you can have a look through them.
On the 17th October my friend Iris and I visited Wonder in the lanes to see the House of Juba exhibition. We had a wonderful time and had interesting conversations about the art as well as our ideas for our own projects. An artist I loved was Hugh Fox, I’ve attached these photos below. The flowers on the coffee table were beautiful and the way the sun was shining into the room with the background dark was so detailed. I felt there was something nostalgic about the image which made you almost feel warmth from looking at it. He had another piece of work which was a window looking onto a forest, the forest lit up and framed by the red curtains made you feel as though you were there. Neal Grundy’s work I also liked, the clean background of nature contrasted by the silk fabrics was bold, and the colours complimented the scenery. For my research project I would like to look at more of his work, I love to photograph nature and think he has done it in such an interesting way that is inspiring for my own project.
