The Museum of Modern Art Archives. Installation view of the exhibition From the Picture Press. 30 Jan.– 29 Apr. 1973. This exhibition displayed photographs from the tabloid newspaper, The New York Daily News. Shorn of their original newspaper context, the exhibition abstracted the photos as predominantly aesthetic images. Although this repurposing gave the audience room to create their own narratives about the events depicted, it robbed the images of some of their evidential power.
