Usually at the end of their practice module students host an event of presentations, speakers and networking – but this year due to COVID19, they hosted a successful online event which included a Facebook Q&A with black, Asian and minority ethnic creatives.
Over twenty second-years from the School of Humanities delivered their end-of-module event ‘A Guide To‘ as part of their Literature and Media In Practice modules, adding a new initiative of a live Q and A session with BAME creatives.
The event aims to celebrate students’ achievements in their work placements; to promote their degrees to future students and to raise awareness of potential post-grad work opportunities.
The students received positive feedback from the guest speakers, with John Lynch, Educational Consultant, commenting “it was fascinating to listen to the students’ challenges and aspirations” and writer Elaine Chiew commending the students “lively and engaged questions”.
The success of ‘A Guide To’ was down to the work-ethic, commitment and resilience of the students working together, a key aim of the module but one that was amplified by the consequences of Covid-19 lockdown.
With the tagline “Kickstarting your career with a degree in English Literature and Media” the students demonstrated their ability to transfer and apply their degree skills.
