Earthling Ed to speak at Humanities Society Special

Ed Winters, otherwise known as Earthling Ed, vegan educator and entrepreneur will be speaking on The Ostrich Effect: Hiding the Truth about the Impacts of our Food Choices this Wednesday.

We see it in the news, we hear it on the radio, we come across it on social media: our food choices have a high impact on the planet and cause immense suffering to billions of living beings.

We cannot keep hiding from the truth anymore! But knowing is one thing, acting another. Simply showing slaughterhouse footage on Facebook or Instagram won’t make people go vegan overnight. Education is key to actually make us understand what it takes to make the foods we eat and why we need a drastic shift in our diets.

Guest speaker Ed Winters, also known as Earthling Ed, will tackle the complexities of this topic and make us aware of the fact that we cannot solely be consumers anymore. We have to become food citizens, aware of the origin of our foods and willing to try new, delicious foods for the better of the world. We can all contribute in one way or another to the animal rights and food disruption movement and hopefully, Ed’s story and lifepath will inspire you to find your own place within this movement.

Ed Winters is the co-founder and co-director of Surge, an animal rights organization, which in 2016 founded The Official Animal Rights March, which has grown from 2,500 participants in London in 2016 to 28,000 participants across the globe in 2018. In 2017 Winters produced the documentary Land of Hope and Glory. Winters has spoken at multiple companies, schools and universities in Europe and in the U.S., including Ivy League schools such as Harvard and Cornell. He has also given two Ted Talks, one at Lund University and one at Bath University. Recently, Winters launched his own podcast called The Disclosure Podcast.
