On behalf of the widening participation team I am writing to thank everyone who was involved with the planning and attending of the SASS summer school.
It was a truly memorable and rewarding summer school and I would like to say a big thank you to all the students, academics and student ambassadors that made the summer school such a success. Also a big thanks to the caterers at Mayfield House who provided delicious food during one of their busiest periods.
The Summer school provided a fun and insightful experience into university life and education and was attended by 26 students from a variety of colleges and sixth forms across the country from Sussex to as far afield as Birmingham, Devon and Norfolk.

On the final day students presented their research findings on: women and gender representation; mentalism; inequalities between men and women in the media; education and workplace inequality and understanding mental health. The academics involved were very impressed by the intellectual and thoughtful debates discussed in the presentations and provided very positive feedback.

One of the high points of the summer school was a talk by David Hodgson, a master practitioner and trainer of NLP, who works with young people on motivation, goal setting, life skills and employability.
“My favourite part was the buzz book talk; [a practical confidence builder for young people.] It was so funny and inspiring.”
