Dear readers,
this week I have a lot of exciting new developments and new information to discuss. Today I made my third visit to the Hillside Construction site to explore and progression that may have taken place. However while I was there I was able to find some far more accurate view points and capture a lot more information through photographs. I was able to record a list of Companies involved in the construction of the work done thus far and have carried out some further research to gain an idea of their roles in the process and how they have benefited the project.
One company that stood out was Blanchard Wells LTD as their name was written over masses of equipment as well as the building structures. Blanchard Wells are a civil engineering company based in Southampton who specialise in contracts in many elements such as pre construction, groundwork operations as well as their main focus being reinforced concrete frames. As we know from the previous post, PMC are constructing the hillside flats using reinforced concrete which explains their presence at the site. The company are very highly regarded for their work being fairly local will decrease any environmental impacts in terms of the transportation of equipment and materials. The director of the Hillside construction project Steve Cripps stated,
“Blanchard Wells provide a very professional service, proactive with their approach to work within programme restraints. They have worked on several schemes where the cost plan was over budget. Throughout the value engineering stages Blanchard Wells were extremely helpful to ensure that project savings were made where possible. They have since become a framework contractor to PMC who we use on a regular basis” (https://blanchardwells.co.uk/)
Another Company involved in the concrete structure of the apartment buildings is Sothern Concrete Services who are a partnering company to Blanchard Wells. This is another highly regarded organisation who are involved with a large number of other projects. According to their website, “Southern Concrete Services is the South’s leading specialist in concrete repairs, concrete coatings, epoxy coatings, flooring coatings and repairs” (https://southernconcreteandconstruction.co/).
From what I can gather, PMC have made use of two very efficient and experienced contractors to construct both the reinforced concrete frames as well as the floors and ceilings for the six apartment buildings being erected. As they have stated in their official planning Document, they have contracted only companies that will provide a high quality service and will maximise means of health and safety. Another point to mention is their desire to make sue of local organisations to attempt to reduce environmental impacts caused by the site which they have also lived up to.
Next time I will be discussing other companies involved in providing means of electrical power, scaffolding and heavy lifting equipment as well as moving onto the next stage of construction, external brickworks.
