Student nurses and midwives to receive annual £5,000 grants from September 2020

The government has announced that from September 2020 annual payments of £5,000 will be made to all student nurses and midwives – as well as students on some allied health professions courses.

Students in some parts of England and/or who are taking courses in specialist disciplines such as mental health, could receive additional funding worth up to £3,000 – meaning total funding support of £8,000 a year. More advice will be provided early in 2020.

This support comes in the form of grants rather than student loans and does not have to be paid back.

We will provide more details of what this means for Brighton students here when we have it.

The Council of Deans of Health website has a very helpful FAQ.
