Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) – two day intensive course, Oct 2016
ASIST is a two-day intensive and interactive practice focused course designed to develop skills in order to recognise people at risk of suicide, and learn new techniques to intervene and prevent the immediate risk of suicide. ASIST training has been developed and refined by Livingworks Inc over the past 25 years with over 1 million people trained all around the world.
The aim of the workshop is to help individuals feel comfortable, confident and competent at recognising a person at risk of suicide and to provide suicide “first aid” that aims to prevent immediate risk of suicide. Just as CPR skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills in suicide first aid.
During the workshop participants will have an opportunity to:-
· Explore personal and professional experience of suicidal behaviours and suicide
· Recognise a person at risk of suicide and explore invitations
· Hear a person’s story behind suicide and enable a suicidal person to recognise
choices available to them
· Understand how to use a safety framework to enable a person to keep safe
· Link a suicidal person to community resources
The workshop is suitable for all individuals (professionals and non-professional) who want to be more effective in preventing immediate risk of suicide.
