Korfball workshop

As part of an on-going series of alternative activities, PGCE and School Direct trainee PE teachers were introduced to the Dutch game of ‘Korfball’. Korfball is a goal throwing invasion and a mix between netball and basketball played specifically between two mixed-sex teams of eight (four female and four male).

Physical Education trainees experience Ultimate Frisbee

Trainee Physical Education teachers returned to the University of Brighton having spent time training in secondary schools and were introduced to a new and innovative team game as part of their subject knowledge enhancement. Introduction to Rock-It-Ball

PGCE and School Direct PE trainee teachers were introduced to a new innovation when they took part in a Rock-it-ball workshop. Since its launch Rock-It-Ball has spread rapidly through schools in the UK and has also started to be adopted by colleges and universities.

Inclusive Sports Festival

Over 120 pupils from eight special schools in East Sussex attended an inclusive sports festival held at the School of Sport and Service Management in Eastbourne. The event was run and organised by PGCE and School Direct trainee Physical Education teachers

Cheerleading workshop

PGCE and School Direct trainee teachers were introduced to the benefits of teaching cheerleading in secondary schools as part of their induction programme and an artistic scheme of work designed to help them consider the possibilities of introducing new and exciting activities within the PE curriculum.

Wheelchair Basketball Workshops

Inclusive physical activity workshop

PE and Dance students at the School of Sport and Service Management took part in a whole day of inclusive sport and physical activity as part of their preparation for their forthcoming school placements. The emphasis of the day was on equity and inclusion within the secondary school PE and dance curriculum.

Street Surfing for PE students

PGCE and School Direct PE trainee teachers took part in a street surfing workshop as part of their induction at the School of Sport and Service Management. Street Surfing is the latest Californian craze amongst children and is a combination of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding on two wheels.
