Routledge and LGBT History Month – sexuality in sport

To mark LGBT history month this February, Routledge have put together a collection of articles discussing sexuality in sport including several written by Dr Jayne Caudwell from the School of Sport and Service Management.

A variety of events have made this an incredibly current issue in the media. Only recently the world has witnessed the passing of Russia’s new laws banning ‘homosexual propaganda’ in the run-up to Sochi’s hosting of the forthcoming Winter Olympics; gay football players ‘coming out’ after retirement from the sport and only then admitting to the difficulties they have faced; and elite athletes like Tom Daley making public statements about their sexual orientation whilst still at the height of their careers.
