CoSTaLs PhD Students host Postgraduate Conference on Reflexivity

20161202_114410On 2 December, School of Sport and Service Management PhD students Adam Talbot and Jennifer Holland co-hosted with Sheffield Hallam PhD student Rachel Handforth a one day conference on the challenge to using reflexivity in research.

This regional postgraduate event was organised on behalf of the British Sociological Association and the Centre of Sport, Tourism & Leisure Studies (CoSTaLs) with delegates coming from 17 universities across the country.

Everyone especially enjoyed the keynote presentations led by Dr Jon Dean (Sheffield Hallam) and Dr Claudia Dolezal (University of Westminster), who provided a theoretical and practical look at what reflexivity is, why it is important and how to apply it in research.

20161202_155339There were many excellent and diverse presentations by postgraduate students from across disciplines including education, tourism, psychology, sociology, health and political science.  The day concluded with a great round table discussion led by Dr Mark Erickson and Jon and Claudia were joined by Dr. Mark Doidge to discuss the wider issues and implications of reflexivity.

Jennifer said: “We’re so pleased with the way it turned out!”

The event was catered by local Eastbourne business The Little Catering Company.
