Undergraduate PE teachers experience mountain biking
During the first month, first year student teachers on the Physical Education BA(Hons) with QTS learn about and take part in a wide range of Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA) both on and off campus.
For their latest adventure the student teachers experienced mountain biking in Brighton’s Stanmer Park with PE lecturers Simon Green and Warren Smart.
Simon said: “Early on in their teacher training we are looking to explore different activities and discuss how this makes PE more accessible and inclusive, and how values and life skills are explored within them.”
Prior to the mountain biking session the students had lectures that explore trips and visits, and the teachers role in organising these types of activities to benefit the pupils and the wider school community.
Simon added: “The trainees approached the mountain biking with enthusiasm. We were really proud of how they kept positive, despite the weather, as they threw themselves into it. The weather definitely led to discussions about teaching PE in wintry conditions and our own enthusiasm levels needing to be high to motivate our pupils.”
