Future sport students try out university

At the end of January we were delighted to welcome over 50 college students to the Falmer campus for the first of four Sport Conferences taking place this year.

The conference gave the year 12 students from Varndean College, Brighton Met, Lewes College and Haywards Heath College an opportunity to learn more about the university, its courses and meet staff and current students.

The visiting students were also able to see some of the sport fixtures taking place during their lunch break and were enthused by the vibrant nature of the Falmer campus.

Current Brighton sport students were on hand to support during the day and answer questions about what it is like to be a University of Brighton student. One said: “It wasn’t that long ago when I was in their position and it was nice to answer questions and tell them about what made me choose this University.”

Another said: “It was a really enjoyable to work with the students from the colleges showing the equipment we use in strength and conditioning and getting them to use it. I’d like to think seeing what we do practically will mean they choose to study at the University of Brighton.”

Simon Green, Senior Lecturer in PE and an admissions tutor said:” Year 12 is a key time to advise students on the differences between sports courses and the potential careers they can lead to. At our conferences they also gain an understanding of the practical nature of the courses by taking part in activities within our amazing facilities.”

Over 240 year 12 students will attend the four sport conferences taking place this year. A huge thank you, to all the staff and student ambassadors that work so hard make them happen.
