Coaching session with Chelsea FC
We were delighted to welcome Damon Pierce, Sussex Schools Officer, and Zac Moy, Senior Coach, from Chelsea FC to the Falmer campus.
Damon and Zac gave a presentation to all three years of our Sport Coaching BSc(Hons) degree students which included details of their career paths into their current roles.
They were joined by Sport and Exercise Science student Sam Naylor to chat about the opportunity to become a sessional football coach for Chelsea in their Sussex Department. Sam joined the programme as a coach last year and explained to the students what the role involved and how it is benefitting him.
After the presentations everyone took to the all-weather football pitch for a football coaching session. Despite the torrential rain the students enjoyed the practical session and the opportunity to speak with the club representatives.
Sport Coaching course leader Anastasiya Khomutova said: “Sessions like this enable our students to get hands-on experience and learn more about different coaching careers. Throughout their studies we encourage them to think about jobs, and the skills (soft and qualifications) that they will need for a successful career.”
