Schwartz Rounds – sharing the emotional aspects of clinical practice

As a Brighton health student you can participate in Schwartz Rounds.

Schwartz Rounds are hour-long sessions where students come together to listen to stories and share reflections in a supportive and confidential environment.

The sessions, shaped by a facilitator, offer the opportunity for you to reflect on the emotional aspects of clinical practice. A range of themes are offered throughout the year and titles could include ‘the patient I’ll never forget’, ‘raising a concern’, or ‘a day in the life of…’. You can choose to share your thoughts and feelings in the discussion, or you can choose to just listen.

The panel of storytellers could include colleagues from clinical practice, students, recent graduates and course lecturers. You’ll also have the opportunity to spend time with your peers from other health courses and understand more about their roles.

As a healthcare professional you may experience a wide range of emotions from joy and pride to grief and anger. As a Brighton health student we’ll be there to navigate you through the challenges and support you.

“I found it very beneficial. It showed that no matter how long you’ve been trained, certain situations will stick with you throughout your professional life. And it was good to now that everybody has that.”
