Students doing cheerleading activities in the gym

Welcome activities take students to new heights

Students studying on our Sport foundation year got off to a flying start on their course.

During welcome week the students took part in a range of activities designed to create a sense of belonging and community.

In the Falmer campus sports hall the students had to put their trust in each other as they participated in a cheerleading pyramid session. They also used gym equipment from hoops to balance benches to improve their communication skills, working as a team to complete their missions.

Caroline Langford, course leader, said: “Starting university can be challenging and the sessions were designed to help break down any barriers and get the students to work as a team.

“They definitely brought the cohort together and new skills were learnt too.”
