Radiography suite official opening

We were delighted to welcome some very special guests to the university’s Falmer campus for the official opening of our radiography facilities.  

Staff and students were joined by Ross McGhee (President of the Society of Radiographers), Katherine Day (Imaging Services Manager at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust), representatives from MIS Healthcare and Vice Chancellor of the university Debra Humphris

Ross McGhee spent the day at the university chatting with students and being taken round the facilities.

Our radiography suite includes an X-ray table and tube, PACS/DICOM image store and clinical imaging simulation software to help students prepare for their placements where they will work with service users.

Tom Lenihan and Hiro Utting, both from our first cohort of Diagnostic Radiography BSc(Hons) students, spoke to guests about their experiences on their degree and in particular the fantastic support they had received from staff both at the university and while out on their clinical placements.   

Katherine Day spoke about how the university’s courses will help address the shortage of radiographers both locally and nationally.   

Charlene WallaceCharlene Wallace, course leader of our Diagnostic Radiography courses said: “Our x-ray room official opening was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the hard work and dedication that it has taken to reach this point. The new facilities enable learners to develop their skills and knowledge in a safe environment, whilst building their professional identity.   

“From this September, we will also have our first cohort of MSc Diagnostic Radiography (pre reg) students joining us. It is a very exciting time to study Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Brighton.”   

The University of Brighton’s launched its Diagnostic Radiography BSc(Hons) and Diagnostic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship in September 2022. A two-year Diagnostic Radiography (pre-registration) MSc will be running from September 2023.
