Headteacher provides guidance and advice to trainee PE teachers

Trainee physical education trainee teachers were provided with valuable professional advice when head Teacher of Gildredge House School, Craig Bull, spoke to them about securing their first teaching position.

Craig is a member of the University of Brighton Alumni Association having studied a Physical Education BA(Hons) with Qualified Teacher Status degree at the university 17 years ago.

The seminar covered the application processes, writing a supporting statement, researching the school, interview techniques and other professionally relevant factors. Craig’s career includes roles as a teacher of physical education, a deputy head teacher and a head teacher at a British International School in Singapore.

PGCE and School Direct PE route leader, Dr Gary Stidder said: “I remember teaching Craig as an undergraduate and recall that he was a very focussed student. Having an experienced head teacher such as Craig speaking to our trainee teachers was extremely insightful but also very inspiring.

“The fact that Craig is also a former physical education teacher helped to contextualise much of the information he was able to provide our students with respect to working within the contemporary education system and securing their first physical education teaching post.”
