Student joins CIMSPA Youth Panel

Final year Sport Management BSc(Hons) student Farran Leach has been appointed to the CIMSPA Youth Panel for 12 months.

CIMSPA (The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) is the professional development body the UK’s sport and physical activity sector, committed to supporting, developing and enabling professionals and organisations to succeed and, as a result, inspire our nation to become more active.

Farran is one of just nine members on the CIMSPA Youth Panel which provides their board of trustees with an authentic perspective from young adults. Being appointed was a competitive process and Farran will be able to influence the policy and direction of the professional body, and be involved in the future of the sport and physical activity sector workforce.

Farran said of her appointment: “Applying to CIMSPA gave me the ability to challenge myself – I wanted to gain valuable experience in a sector I feel extremely passionate about.

“I applied in order to expand my knowledge base but also to have the opportunity to meet new people. I am extremely grateful to be a part of the youth panel for CIMSPA and I have thoroughly enjoyed the role I have played so far.

“Throughout my time of being a panel member I hope to show and give young people the same opportunities in sport and physical activity that I have been able to have. But to also encourage them to fall in love with the sector just as much as I have.”

Dr Marc Keech, Principal Lecturer in sport policy and management, has been leading the CIMSPA endorsement process for the school and shared the advertised appointment with students.

Dr Keech said: “Our partnership with CIMSPA enables us to have continued confidence that our courses enable students and graduates to work towards recognised industry led professional standards.

“Farran’s appointment to the CIMSPA national youth panel illustrates that she has a critically informed awareness of the current situation in sport and physical activity sector.”

The University of Brighton is a CIMSPA Higher Education Partner which brings many benefits for students on our sport-related courses. CIMSPA also endorse our Sport Management BSc(Hons) and Sport Coaching BSc(Hons) degrees ensuring they meet industry standards and provide graduates with the knowledge and skills that employers have identified as most valuable.
