New sport coaching book by course leader

Dr Jim Wallis, Course Leader for our Sport Coaching BSc(Hons), has co-written a new book.

The book will be published by Routledge on 1 September and is titled Sport Coaching with Diverse Populations: Theory and Practice.

The book will provide valuable knowledge for coaches who work with specific populations; including people of all ages, those of different gender or sexual orientation, individuals with a variety of disabilities or illness, the disadvantaged, refugees, BAME and LGBT groups.

Traditionally, content and pedagogic knowledge has tended to dominate coach education programmes and has neglected to recognise or develop the particular skill set required to coach the diverse groups of participants that are recipients of coaching at all levels. This text serves to enlighten readers about the professional competencies and knowledge needed to build successful working relationships with the communities within which coaches operate.

Other works by Dr Jim Wallis include Becoming a Sports Coach published in 2015

You can find out more about Sport Coaching with Diverse Populations: Theory and Practice on the Routledge website.
