Peter talking to the trainee teachers

Former Head Teacher provides advice

Peter Midwinter, a former Head Teacher, visited trainee physical education teachers to provide advice and guidance.

Peter was Principal of the Sir Robert Woodard Academy – a school serving the communities of Lancing, Sompting and Shoreham in West Sussex. He provided valuable professional advice as he spoke to them about securing their first teaching position.

The seminar covered the application processes, writing a supporting statement, researching the school, interview techniques and other professionally relevant factors. Peter has been a head teacher at four different secondary schools and academies in Sussex.

Physical Education PGCE and School Direct route leader, Dr Gary Stidder said: “Having an experienced head teacher such as Peter speaking to our trainee teachers was extremely insightful but also very inspiring.

“The fact that Peter is also a former physical education teacher helped to contextualise much of the information he was able to provide with respect to working within the contemporary education system.”
