FA Secondary Teachers’ Award
PGCE and School Direct Physical Education trainee teachers gained the English Football Association Teachers award after completing a six hour workshop.
The qualification is specifically designed for teachers for teaching football as part of a physical education curriculum. It provides a basic introduction to the knowledge and skills required to deliver football sessions at Key Stage 3 and/or Key Stage 4 levels predominantly in a practical-based schedule. It also covers the principles of invasion games, planning units of learning and modifying activities and game-related practices.
Physical Education Route leader, Dr Gary Stidder, said: “National Governing Body teaching awards provide trainee teachers of physical education with valuable subject knowledge but also a greater undertsanding of pedagogy and the way in which pupils learn.
“This can add to the repetoire of existing skills that trainee teachers of physical education have and give them the confidence to teach football, which is growing in popularity in secondary schools, particularly amongst teenaged girls.”
