Tchouckball and VX Rockitball

PGCE and School Direct PE students were introduced to a new and innovative non-contact invasion game which is sweeping across the country and gaining popularity amongst pupils in secondary school PE lessons.

Tchouckball is a game that was invented in Switzerland. It is played on an indoor court and is a combination of handball and volleyball. The name comes from the ‘tchouk’ sound of the ball rebounding from a Tchouckball frame.

The object of the game is to shoot a ball at a rebound frame inside a restricted zone. There is a three pass limit before players have to shoot as well as a three step rule. Players shoot the ball at the frame so that it rebounds off in a way that no defending player can catch it before it hits the field of play. Any team can score either end on the frame. If the ball is caught, the defending team becomes the attacking team and the play goes on.

Rock-It-Ball is a rapidly growing and fast-moving ball sport that can be enjoyed by all. Rock-It-Ball has had great impact in the field of education in promoting honesty in sport and increasing participation amongst children. As a sport, Rock-It-Ball is one of the few areas where male and female players compete on an equal basis.

The game is played between two teams of up to ten players. A maximum of five players from each team on court at any one time, each player has a V-Stick. Teams can be of mixed gender. Teams can substitute any number of players at the end of each quarter.

Route Leader Dr Gary Stidder said: “Tchouckball and VX Rockitball are totally gender-neutral team games. Males and females play on a totally equal footing in all disciplines and at all levels. It is also accessible to players of all abilities.

“It is not an adaptation of any single sport however there are elements of several sports including dodgeball, lacrosse, Basque pelota.”
