How to secure your first PE teaching post

Our physical education trainee teachers were provided with valuable professional advice when former Principal of the Sir Robert Woodard Academy in Lancing, Peter Midwinter, spoke to them about securing their first teaching position.

The seminar covered application processes, writing a supporting statement, researching the school, interview techniques and other professionally relevant factors. Peter has been a head teacher at four different secondary schools and academies in Sussex.

PGCE and School Direct PE route leader, Dr Gary Stidder said: “Having an experienced head teacher such as Peter speaking to our trainee teachers was extremely insightful but also very inspiring.

“The fact that Peter is also a former physical education teacher helped to contextualise much of the information he was able to provide with respect to working within the contemporary education system.”
