Podiatry taster day a success

On 6 November as part of the Compact Plus Programme, the podiatry taster day took place at the Leaf Hospital in Eastbourne.  Students from local colleges took part in talks, made a plaster cast of their feet, carried out an examination of a cadaver in the anatomy lab and had a tour of the clinic with year 3 students.  

Students learnt about the diverse areas of Podiatry as a career and got to meet current university students and staff.  

Alumnus Glen Foley who graduated from the University of Brighton in 2003 talked about his current role in Podiatry, supporting the rehabilitation of patients at DMRC Headley Court and seeing patients compete at the Invictus Games.

Dao Tunprasert, Senior Lecturer commented, “We all had a fun day together. I am also glad to be able to showcase podiatry as a fascinating and rewarding career to the students, and hopefully inspire the new generations of podiatrists.”

Marina Trowell, Outreach Co-ordinator said, “It was fascinating to see so many different aspects of podiatry showcased and a lot of really useful information about the course given to students. I would like to thank all the staff and students that took part in the taster day.”

  *   The day was really enjoyable. It has made me rethink my options and my career path.

  * I never knew how diverse podiatry is as a subject of study and profession.  Very interesting talks and the anatomy lab was a great experience.

  *   There is more to podiatry than I thought.  Everyone was so friendly and helpful and I will consider coming here in future.
