Working with Rick Stein

After graduating with first class honours from our Internationality Hospitality Management BA(Hons) Felicity Hayes headed to Cornwall to work for Rick Stein:

“After living by the sea in Eastbourne for university, I decided that the coast was where I wanted to be.

“I currently work for Rick Stein down in Cornwall in his luxury deli, selling local cheeses, meats and other products to hungry tourists and patriotic locals (who are quick to tell you off if you put cream on a scone before the jam!). 

“Being a foodie through and through I love to talk to customers about how to cook with certain ingredients, which cheese should be paired with which wine, the tastes and flavours of various products and the terrible Cornish weather.

“I’ve been opening up in the mornings, ordering stock, managing staff and learning a lot about the business.

“The Stein Family pop in quite a lot, though not all at once. Rick is quiet but friendly and it was great to meet someone I’d watched many times on the telly.

“I hope to increase my knowledge on food retail and go on to open my own business in the next few years.”
