Royal box for Nick

Professor Nick Webborn OBE, the university’s Clinical Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine, was a guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

Nick, honoured by the Queen for services to Paralympic Sports Medicine and the British Paralympic Association, and his wife Stephanie were in Centre Court on Friday to watch Britain’s Andy Murray and Heather Watson in their third round matches.

He said: “It was a wonderful experience – I felt very honoured.”

Nick, one of the UK’s leading sports medicine specialists with over 25 years’ experience in the area, is Medical Director of The Sussex Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine and head of Sports Medicine at The Centre for Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine at the university. He was the Chief Medical Officer for the British Paralympic team at London 2012 and is now Chair of the British Paralympic Association.

Nick will be at the World Para Athletics Championships at the London Stadium starting on 14 July and will host a reception for Sir Philip Craven MBE, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). He will also be presenting medals to the winners of three events during the games and will also be conducting a study on shoulder pain and ultrasound findings in wheelchair athletes as part of the IPC Medical Committee.
