Easter Challenge Camp for local children

Children from Eastbourne and Brighton primary schools attended the University of Brighton’s Easter Challenge Camp from 10-13 April as part of the university’s Compact Plus and widening participation scheme.

Pupils worked with university students and took part in a range of activities such as Tri-Golf, Ultimate Frisbee, Kinball, parachute games, and other team-related activities. The Challenge Camp curriculum is based on the University of Brighton’s Football 4 Peace methodology and pedagogical principals.

The aim of the event was to provide opportunities for children to work outside of ‘safe’ friendship boundaries with children from other local primary schools, learn about new types of physical activities and to develop their understanding of core values such as trust, respect and responsibility.

Eastbourne coordinator, Marina Trowell, was delighted with how the event was run and praised the university students for all their hard work and effort in making the challenge camp a really positive experience for the children.

Marina said: “The enthusiasm, encouragement and energy that the students put into the challenge camp made the entire experience a really positive one for all the children involved.”
